Festival Kraška gmajna: Exploring the Cultural Landscape of Karst by Bike

As part of the Kras Gmajna Festival, we will also be exploring the cultural landscape of Kras by bike on Sunday, April 21st, 2024, starting at 9:00 a.m. in front of the Peace Monument at Cerje.

The starting point is at the Monument in Cerje. We continue through the Črni hribi towards the summit of Trstelj, where we take a break at Stjenkova koča. Then, we descend to the village of Lipa and visit a stonemason and a winemaker. Following the route of the railway from World War I, we continue to the village of Temnica, where we learn about the significance of the "eighters". Passing through the village of Novelo, we head towards Kostanjevica na Krasu and Nova vas, where we will be greeted by a goat farmer. We continue to Opatje Selo to meet with an herbalist and beekeeper, and then to Lokvica to meet olive growers. Before returning to the starting point, we learn about the importance of water in Kras, using the example of Štirna Vrh Drage.
