Green DNA
Miren Kras abounds in rich flora and fauna and is a Natura 2000 site. Here, you can find the best asparagus (“beluši”) that grows from red karst soil that is protected from the bora wind by the dry-stone walls, and vines that are used to produce the delicate Teran wine, as well as olive trees that fill the bottles with home-made olive oil. You can hear birds singing in tree tops, or even meet a bear, jackal or lynx. People and animals need clean air and soil to thrive. We put all our efforts in keeping our environment clean - for ourselves and for future generations. Water has been valued greatly from ancient times. We preserve water wells or “štirne” and natural springs that are used to feed animals as well as for new habitats of water animals. Architecture is based on the legacy of the best construction masters from the past, and cuisine is based on the recipes of our grand-grandmas. The exquisite plates in inns and restaurants bring you fresh ingredients from local gardens. Our carbon footprint is reduced by endorsing e-mobility. We promote sustainable construction; all events in our area are held without plastic for single use. Every new-born in the municipality gets their own nectar-bearing tree. Nature gives us life and Miren Krast gives back with respect.
