The hidden world of Karst caves
The karst landscape is one of the greatest secrets of nature in Slovenia. In millions of years, the karst stone and water have carved a unique surface and hidden wonders under the ground. Miren Kras abounds in channels, caves and halls that catch this play of nature.
Visit caves that were used as military posts and were the ancient residences of people. Discover the Pečinka Cave, a WWI military shelter which is now a museum. The caves Krompirjeva jama, Klobasja jama, Lojzova jama and Ruska jama, which once served as shelters for soldiers of the Isonzo Front and enabling them to rest during the war, are also open for visit. You can also visit the cave with the most exotic name in Slovenia. Leopardova jama or Leopard Cave is not open to the public, but researchers found the bones of the Ice Age leopard there.
